Finding The Right Answer
by Edeltraut Scheffler
Oh, sorrow -- leave my lonely heart!
How can I start
Getting rid of a sordid mood?
I need the proper food
To feed my mind.
Where can I find
The solution that gives me a lift?
To get a valid answer would be a gift;
Very precious in this time of agony.
Happy and carefree I want to be
Not dwelling on the past.
Life ends very fast.
It seems -- the older we get
The more we fret.
The way we act
Depends on the fact
How we are being cared for.
Isn’t it right -- a cat people more adore
Than an ailing, lonely relative?
Not everybody is sensitive.
A lot of hurt we have to bear.
No one wants our life to share.
When we were young we were loved.
Now, getting old -- we are being shoved
Rudely aside.
To younger people’s rules we have to abide.
Therefore, I stay out of their way.
Happy I want them to be anyway.
What then is the solution
To my sad heart’s pollution?
It is only up to me --
The answer to find -- happy to be.
This I found out at last:
It causes sorrow -- to dwell on the past.
