Where are You?

Elaine Procida
Copyright 2000

The clouds softly float,
across the blue sky.
The stars in the heavens,
shine light to see by.

The leaves gently wave,
as the breeze passes through.
The joy it could bring
is blocked.
Where are you?

The door it is closed.
To go in, I care not.
The walls do not speak.
The chair has no heart.

The leaves gently wave,
as the breeze passes through.
The joy it could bring
is blocked.
Where are you?

There is no one to share,
the good and the bad.
There is no one to hug,
when happy or sad.

The leaves gently wave,
as the breeze passes through.
The joy it could bring
is blocked.
Where are you?

No meaning is there,
to live or to die.
Get up in the morning,
I know not why.

The leaves gently wave,
as the breeze passes through.
The joy it could bring
is blocked.
Where are you?

Deaf Child's Silent Pleas to a Hearing World

Susan Hayes
Copyright 2000

We tried to tell you in many ways:
the despair,
the silence,
the fears,
that we could not hear

It's not that we haven't tried
to listen,
to speak,
to hear,
and understand
what you are saying

There is no drama,
no hysteria,
no acting
to prove that we are deaf

You get mad at us
because we don't answer you,
but
we get mad at you
because we can't hear you

We live
in a world of silence
and
you live
in a world of hearing

Our dreams are for us
to hear and speak,
your dreams are for us
to hear and speak.
And we as deaf children
cry out our pleas for help from
our silent world
to
your hearing world
