Voice of the editor

As an introduction I would like to sincerely thank Pearl for her hard work as editor over the past years. Her resignation has left a gap which will be very hard to fill.

Sitting down to write my first letter as editor I reflect back to when I first discovered SWC in 2001. At that time I was reluctantly trying to decide whether to go ahead with CI surgery. When I started to read the good advice given and emotions shared by members who had already taken that journey, I realized for the first time in 40 years of hearing loss that I had found people who understood what it is like to feel embarrassed for responding inappropriately when carrying on a conversation. To all those people who founded SWC, and those who have helped me along the way, I give my sincere thanks. One final thank you has to go to Kate Johnston, a past editor of many years, who has voluntarily stepped forward to guide me through this and further editions.

As this edition is published during the Holiday season there is an emphasis on how we participate in our various celebrations, both in the U.S. and from International members. This will also be a fun edition with the introduction of Mr. and Mrs. Claus and the dilemma which they faced.

Wishing you all well for your celebrations and for the coming New Year.
