Conversation Impossible
by Edeltraut L. Scheffler-Plath
I see you walking,
I see you talking.
Smiling faces I see
Giving the impression that you are happy.
Gladly I would like to be
Part of your company:
Taking pleasant walks,
Joining your carefree talks.
Oh, what precious time that would be,
Of all sadness to be free!
Great joy it would bring
To hear you even sing.
Yet, to my regret it is too late:
It was not supposed to be my fate
To keep my hearing intact;
That is a very sad fact.
Nothing can I hear nowadays.
There are no ways
To get my hearing back.
Alack!
Nevertheless -- my spirit I keep high
With just a silent sigh.
With whatever else I may be hit
I fight it -- to stay fit!
