Macias I've taken a step back to look at what posts I respond to, what posts interest me, what posts interest others, what generates conversation, what is related to "hearing loss" and what is "non hearing loss" related. Some of my observations may be humorous but I hope it will assist you in understanding my opinion is not based on just one comment but on a overall observation.
Observation #1. SayWhatClub's members are diverse, worldwide with wonderful knowledge, experiences, understanding, supportive, humorous and respect for their fellow beings. Opinion #1. What a special place this is.
Observation #2. The subjects discussed are as diverse as the people that make up the membership, To me this is not so much a "Club" as a community for HOH/Deaf people to come together to "talk" and being able to "hear" others without the challenges that we face in day to day life. Opinion #2. I do NOT feel we should limit members from "talking". It is obvious members enjoy jokes, trivia, political conversation, family heritage, memories, food discussions, holidays, parties, as much as much as they do a post related to the lastest in "hearing loss". I DO feel members have the ability (and use it) to delete any subject matter they want without reading. I know if it is a subject I have no interest in I delete it. What difference does it matter if someone posts 3 food receipe messages and no one responds or if they post 1 food receipe message and 20 people respond and it goes on for days? In both cases if I don't care about food. I delete all of them. The same for if I don't agree with a person's opinion or style of writing. If I see they are the sender I can delete without reading. That is my choice and no one else knows.
Observation #3. The "hearing loss" information, suggestions, resources, and websites are all there for the asking. A member can seek assistance and the community will definitely provide various guidance. Opinion #3. The resource of information the members of SayWhatClub have is wonderful. The exciting part is everyone shares their varying opinions so the person seeking the information can make a sound decision. As the old saying goes...what works for me may not for you...
Observation #4. The power of the delete key is up to the beholder. Opinion #4. I've appreciated the creative use of the subject line. Being informative and direct as to the subject discussed. As an example if it is a joke I appreciated the warning some have posted. Delete and you shall not read if that is your choice. I especially appreciate when someone sends me a private email and says...I was going to delete your message but decided to read and...this is appreciated because I believe when people are direct you can accomplish more. |

German I want to share my own experiences with SWC. When I first joined a few years ago, seeking information and "support" for hearing impairments I delighted in finding a JEWEL of people that had hearing problems like myself. I couldn't wait to read posts about hearing loss and dealing with hearing issues and I was UPSET that all I could see were posts about financial investments, a refrigerator that kept breaking down, Arts and Crafts ideas, and talks about religious beliefs. I was so frustrated in not having the opportunity to see the majority of posts about hearing issues that I left SWC. Yes I did. I LEFT. After about two to three years, I came back to SWC to see if it offered IMPROVED SUPPORT and find not only has SWC grown - but I did indeed find more posts dealing with hearing issues - but also posts about everything else too! I established new friendships - and slowly and gradually I came to understand that this is a place where I can meet others with hearing problems and/or issues and we can share EVERYTHING. I FINALLY UNDERSTOOD that if I need anything hearing-related and need information or yearn to see information, then I WILL PUT THE POST OUT MYSELF. But we are here to gather and share whatever we desire...and we all have one thing in common - we are either hearing impaired, or we are seeking hearing impaired information. And if you see too many posts not really giving any information - SUBMIT A POST to get this information flowing! I understand how one can get frustrated wondering why sometimes the many, many, many posts have NOTHING to do with hearing loss...as I told you above, I was that way too. So I think we should make it clear with New people as well as remind ourselves that this is a place where anything and any topic can happen!!! |
