Please join me in welcoming Newbie Åsa, from Sweden. She and I have been chatting a bit, and I know she will be another welcome member of our group!

In her introductory post she says:

This club was referred to me by Rosi Adendorff in South Arica and her name was in turn given to me by a similar club like SWC that I am a member of in Sweden. I am 38 years old and married with one child 6.5 years old. My husband is a pshyciatrist at a local hospital and that has been great through all this.. haha. I have a masters degree in social work and was a counscellor for mentally retarded adults and their families before I was struck with losing my hearing. Since the fall of 1996 my hearing became bad very fast and since last summer I am totally deaf.. and don´t even hear my own voice.

Still I am lucky since I obviously have a talent for reading lips and even my doctor is very impressed.. This has of course helped me adjust to this handicap. I have been on sick-leave since then and waiting to get an implant that will help me to go back to work. This operation will probably take place in August so I am very excitied..

I have come to terms with my deafness and when I got my portable computer to use as a text-telephone I discovered the world of internet and this has truly made my world a better place. I am thrilled to have contacts with people around the world and has always been, I like to travel and I have lived in the US for a year. So I would very much like to join youre club and I hope I will be able to add some of my thoughts and experiences to it.

Youres truly Åsa Bäcklund
