Joe Marchese, MA
Cochlear Awareness Manager
Joe Marchese is the Cochlear Awareness Manager for the Mid-Atlantic and Eastern Territories. Joe is bilaterally deaf. Joe’s experience with deafness ranges back to 1988 when he suddenly lost all hearing in his right ear. He wore a hearing aid in his left ear until December of 2007 when he lost all hearing in that ear and pursued a Cochlear Implant. He was activated with a Nucleus Freedom in his left ear in February of 2008 and upgraded to a Nucleus 5 processor in March of 2010. Before joining Cochlear Americas, Joe had a progressive career in the NYS Criminal Justice System, starting as a police officer and retiring as a Deputy Director of Criminal Justice, in December of 2006. Joe’s journey into deafness and back to the hearing world has inspired him to help others benefit from implant technology. Joe holds a Bachelors Degree in Police Science from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a Masters Degree in Public Affairs from the State University of NY at StonyBrook.
Laura Carr, M.S. CCC-A
Territory Outreach Specialist- Mid- Atlantic
Laura earned her Bachelors of Science Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from East Carolina University and her Masters of Science Degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Laura was a recipient of the Veteran's Administration Training Grant and had the opportunity to work at the Durham, NC Veterans Administration Hospital for one year. Following that opportunity, she worked as Audiologist and Admissions Coordinator for the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf. Laura then worked at James Madison University as a clinical supervisor and instructor before joining Cochlear. She currently resides in Charlottesville, Virginia.
